Hundreds Of New Species Identified

There were 503 new species discovered and identified in the past two years including a monkey found on an extinct volcano in Myanmar, Southeast Asia.

Endangered already

The monkey was named the Popa langur after Mount Popa on which it was found. Unfortunately the Popa langur has been immediately classed as critically endangered because there are only 260 of the monkeys left in the wild.

Among the other 502 species identified, there were also miniature tarantulas from Myanmar, and a green pit viper and crested lizard from Borneo.

Extinct species discovered

The new discoveries weren’t just restricted to living creatures. Scientists also discovered 122 new fossil species including a wombat like creature from Australia that lived 25 million years ago and was the size of a bear.
